Meadows Exclusives

On this page are a few of the dahlia seedlings which I have selected for possible future distribution. This may take several years for some, especially those which are considered of sufficient quality to send to dahlia trial gardens. I will continue to monitor the growing and blooming qualities of each seedling until I' m confident they are worthy of sending out into the world. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures and I will continue to add more each growing season.

A first year seedling from Bracken Rose. Blooms were 6 inches on a 5 foot tall plant. I was unable to split the tuber clump from this seedling so will be looking for eyes in the spring to determine how to divide.

A first year seedling and my favourite from 2023. Blooms were heavily-petalled with a colour not seen in my dahlia garden in all the years I've been growing them. I was only able to split one tuber off the clump so will need to divide more in the spring. Keeping my fingers crossed this one looks as good in the second year, something that isn't always a certainty with seedlings.

Meadows Memory is a third year seedling from an Aggie White x Walter Hardisty cross. I have compared the blooms of this seedling to those from Walter and they are distinctly different, much tidier. As you can see, blooms are large on a 5 foot tall plant. This seedling bloomed for the first time the week my father passed away, a last parting gift from him, so holds a special place in my heart. Once on the market, proceeds of sales from Memory will be given to a charity in my father's name.

Meadows Sunshine is a second year seedling and one which I have already identified as going to the dahlia trial gardens after it's third year. Beautiful form and colour on a strong growing plant, producing lots of fat tubers and blooms. I plan to grow almost 30 plants of this seedling in 2024.

This second year seedling is a cute little pompon in a peach colour. It won best seedling in the 2022 Canadian Chrysanthemum and Dahlia society flower show. Only 5 tubers exist of this seedling so will be working hard to bulk up in 2024.

A first year seedling from Bracken Rose. A tall grower, topping out at 5 feet and covered in 5 inch tri-coloured blooms. This seedling provided a tuber clump which provided several eyed tubers. I will grow all out to assess in 2024.
